Toshiba HD-A1 (MRSP $499.99)

The Toshiba HD-A1 is Toshiba’s first generation HD-DVD player.  This player is backward compatible, so it can play your old DVDs as well as HD-DVDs.  HD-DVD Discs holds 3 times more than the regular DVD.  This is the first model to be introduced by any manufacturer.

Here are details of the Toshiba HD-A1:

  • Plays CD. CD-R & CD-RW, MP3 and WMA CR-R & CD-RW
  • Through HDMI output, selectable 720p/1080i video up conversion of DVD

The Toshiba HD-A1 is probably the model of choice for most consumers unless they decide to go the higher model, Toshiba HD-XA1. Though the Toshiba HD-XA1 has more bells and whistles, there is also quite a difference in price between the two, making this the better bet for the average consumer.
